Larry Wallace Junior took office November 17, 2019 as the first African American mayor elected in Manor, Texas.
Wallace was on City Council and served as a planning commissioner. Additionally, he worked as an assistant professor at Huston-Tillotson University and is also a retired combat veteran.
“Once all votes were in and confirmed, my first thought was the ability to now focus the same effort put in to win the election to continue my efforts while on city council at my new level of influential opportunity,” said Wallace about his victory. “I’m a big advocate of proactive communication and targeted civic engagement, so these will be root initiatives I want my tenure [sic] enhance. The four principles I ran on were remaining a family-oriented City, establishing diverse opportunities, enabling innovative approaches, and sustaining an affordable economy.”
Wallace replaces the first woman elected as mayor of Manor, Rita Jonse.
